[upbeat music] The noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, the podcast.
[laughs] Okay.
[laughs]
There we go. There's the legal ID. All right, everybody, as promised all morning, we've got our 300-plus entries here for Make the Switch with Brent Gordon Law.
My arm's starting to hurt by holding this phone this, at this position the entire time.
Oh, okay. I'll make sure to take as long as possible.
You know what?
As you can s-
I'm gonna put the phone down.
[laughs]
It, it is gonna face the counter. [laughs]
As you can see here, got a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World. And in this little Christmassy tin, we've got all of our entries. Here, I'll shuffle-
We're about three months too late for Christmas, but you know what? It's been sitting in the studio right over here for the longest time.
Yeah.
Look at all those names.
So it worked. There's, there's a lot of names in here. I'll shuffle-
Crumple 'em up
... them up a little m- more. Crumple 'em? Oh.
Yeah.
I'm dropping them.
Don't you dare.
This is gonna be a problem.
I don't wanna be accused of this contest being rigged because you-
Hold on
... dropped a name.
I dropped a name on the ground.
Ah.
By the way, this is me standing up if you guys wanna see how short Victor is. There you go.
Okay. I'm gonna close the lid.
I've, I've never seen somebody get out of the chair and be the same height.
[laughs] That's right. Okay, so we got our names in the tin. Tin's closed. We'll shake, shake it. [names shuffling] Okay, Peaches. You can see I've got this over my head.
[laughs]
I can't see.
The lid is on, dude. [laughs]
I, I know the lid's on, but as you can see, I've got this over my head and I'm going to draw one winner.
Focus on the gut. [laughs]
G- don't look at my gut. This is why it's bad to be a fat guy and lift up your, your sleeves. Okay, we've got one here.
Who is the one lucky person? Uh, Lindsay says, "Can't hear Victor very well."
Can't hear me?
Yeah, 'cause Facebook Live is weird, where it's like the person-
Uh-huh
... in front of the camera does not get heard all that well, but the person behind the camera...
Okay, what's it say, Peaches?
Uh, Elena Mendez.
Elena Mendez, winner of the Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with Brent Gordon Law and Make the Switch. Uh, we'll call you up here in just a bit, Elena, to get, uh, your info on how you can pick up your Nintendo Switch 2 bundle. Thank you for playing, congrats, and sorry to everybody else for being a bunch of losers.
Yeah, 300 and, like, 19 of them. [laughs]
I'm sorry, y'all. I'm sorry. We only had one Nintendo Switch 2 bundle, but we're giving away other prizes. Uh, we'll probably talk about that on the, uh, next break, the new giveaways we announced at 10 this morning, uh, 'cause they're kind of fun and silly. At, at least one of them. Anyway, is-
[laughs]
They're, they're both fun. One, to me, is kind of silly, but-
Well, one of them is a, a pretty sick movie opportunity.
Oh, yeah.
The other one's kind of like, do you wanna drive three hours to hear, "Is it worth the wait?" [laughs]
That's right. Do you wanna go to Emo Rave? We got you hooked up.
[laughs]
So plenty coming up on the show. Congrats, Elena. We'll give you a call in a few. I can't wait to get these bright lights out of my face. And, uh, thank you to all who watched the video online. I'm blinded by the light. And, um, now we're gonna play the Don Broco and, uh, Nickelback song that was gonna kick off this hour. [upbeat music] This is the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. Congrats again to Elena Mendez winning our Nintendo Switch bundle.
Give her a nice, "Oh, good for you."
That's right, oh, good for you. And, uh, we got other giveaways going on, Peaches.
Oh, that's right. Uh, it's funny enough that you say that because we were talking about it very briefly just before that Don Broco and Nickelback song.
Mm-hmm.
And I go onto Facebook, and sure enough, the first post I see is, uh, a rundown of all the shows happening at The Complex, and they even made a list of what's happening with Emo Night Brooklyn, which is what we're giving away tickets for on Friday, April 17th. Uh, bands that you'll hear but not see.
Bands that you'll hear but not see.
It's a d- uh, it's celebrating the music of, in real tiny font.
Okay.
And then the entire list, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, I'm not gonna name all of these, of course, but-
Read the whole list, Peaches.
All right. There's Paramore, Panic! at the Disco, All Time Low, The Used, Simple Plan-
[retching]
... Good Charlotte, Sum 41-
[retching]
... Taking Back Sunday, Blink-182, Boys Like Girls-
[retching]
... Jimmy Eat World, Hawthorne Heights-
[retching]
... Dashboard Confessional, New Found Glory, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus-
[retching]
... Yellowcard, Sense of Fail, Coheed and Cambria, Motion City Soundtrack-
[retching]
... Mayday Parade, The All-American Rejects, AFI, The Starting Line, Alkaline Trio-
[laughs]
... Jack's Mannequin, The Academy Is..., Underoath, The Starting Line, Story of the Year, and Silverstein, and more.
All right. Uh, sorry, it's my job to, uh, you know, diss on the emo bands, even though I like a lot of them. So Emo Night Brooklyn at The Complex, Friday, April 17th. It's like a emo rave or something.
You know what? It's kind of weird. There's no Death by December or Death in December in here.
That's 'cause they suck. [laughs]
[laughs]
So-
And but you should show up to Emo Night and put that in as a request
Please play Death in December, man. Yeah, it's, uh, look like if you're into emo music, you'll probably have a great time. You know, they're gonna play tons of emo tunes. They got a DJ. Looked like just a big party. And, uh, we're giving away free tickets. All you gotta do is sign up in any of our apps, and if you're lucky, next Friday you'll win.
I almost made a terrible joke about Death in December. [laughs]
[laughs]
I'm like, no, Jade experienced death in, in March. [laughs]
Oh. Oh, not... Well, he likes the dark humor, all right?
He does, he does.
[laughs]
[laughs]
Uh, so yeah, uh, Emo Night Brooklyn. Sign up in any of our apps for your chance to win those tickets. Uh, if you're into emo music, I'm sure it's gonna be fun, and you'll probably see Jade there. Now, if, if there's an event Jade's gonna be at, it's Emo Night Brooklyn, April 17th.
And like we talked about on your morning show, April 18th is the Bill Murray and Home Team show, which I think everyone in the building wants to go to.
Mm-hmm.
So yeah.
That one should be pretty good, too. So-
And then 10 days after that, Electric Callboy.
Oh, now that one, that's, uh, definitely high up on my list.Too many good shows coming up. Check out the details on our website, kbear.fm. [upbeat music] This is the noon hour of madness and mayhem. What is happening, Peaches?
I think I'm officially worse than Rockstar.
Okay, what have you done?
Uh-
What have you taken forever to do? [laughs]
You remember back in June of 2025 when I interviewed Cutter for the Talking Between the Songs podcast?
[laughs] Yeah, I vaguely remember that.
Um, I remember back then he, like, cussed a few times on the interview.
Mm-hmm.
And I don't know why I prolonged it till now.
[laughs]
Maybe because, like, I wanted to put the video together or something like that.
Mm-hmm.
Well, I just uploaded the episode, uh, yesterday.
[laughs] Just yesterday.
[laughs]
Very not yesterday.
Episode four-
[laughs]
... of Talking Between the Songs. Uh, yeah, Cutter is the, uh, the guest.
All right, so most people follow a schedule of putting out about, you know, one podcast a week. You're at one podcast a quarter. [laughs]
Of a century.
[laughs] Well, if you wanna get to know Cutter, who's part of the Cutting Edge Countdown, well, he's the host of the Cutting Edge Countdown.
I was gonna say, uh, yeah, he's the main guy.
[laughs]
Come on, Victor.
Every Sunday at, uh, 8:00 PM, it's counting down the top 21 tracks in rock radio.
What's even worse is that, you know, the s- the station that he's on at WAPL.
Mm-hmm.
I like to call it WAPL.
WAPL.
In Appleton, Wisconsin, uh, they had the Rick and Len Show for the longest time.
Mm-hmm.
And then Rick had to step away, or Len stepped away, or Len got fired.
I think Len got fired.
Len got fired and then became the Rick and Cutter Show.
Mm-hmm.
And then Rick had to step away, and then he just passed away a couple days ago.
I saw that.
So, um, Rick never got to see Cutter's podcast, so.
Aw.
Yeah.
Dang it.
But no, I acknowledge that whole thing in the b- the very beginning, so, uh.
Right.
But yeah, no, Cutter, awesome dude. Very, very chill guy. Yeah, he's interviewed a lot of different rock and metal artists, and he's, uh, he's pretty funny.
Yeah, he has his own podcast called the, uh, Rock Cast.
Yeah, Cutter's Rock Cast.
And it's, uh, it's really good. He is a good dude. Uh, we were the first station to pick up the Cutting Edge Countdown.
Oh, good.
He was one of the first outside of our market rock radio guys that I had met and became friends with. So, good, good guy, but he has moved to classic rock radio.
Yeah, yeah.
Boo.
He, he was on Razor Wisconsin, right?
He was on Razor. Yeah. But, you know, APL, WAPL.
[laughs]
That's the, the big station in the market, so.
I was, I was gonna say, if you get paid a whole bunch of money, which I'm, I'm, I'm saying Cutter does, but I'm just saying, if you get all of a sudden the opportunity to get paid, like, half a million dollars a year and you're in top 40, all right.
Yeah. Yeah.
All of a sudden, I'm a Olivia Rodrigo fan.
I, I mean, I'm sure Cutter ain't making that kind of money. [laughs]
But no, I'm just saying, like, if you become, like, the top dog, like-
Dude, I'd go and do any format-
Like-
... if someone offered me enough money.
What, what do, 'cause I know Woody from the Woody Show, he listens to more so what we play here.
Mm-hmm.
But I would love to see, like, what does Ryan Seacrest actually listen to?
That's a good question.
What does Valentine? What does Elvis Duran? What does, uh, Rover's Morning Glory listen to?
[laughs]
What does Kevin from Kevin and Bean, who's still on, uh, the world-famous K-Rock, what-
World-famous
... what does he listen to?
That's a good question.
I do wanna get, uh, Lou Brutus on the show next, I think.
Oh, and I'm sure he'd do it.
Yeah.
And, uh, it would be a great episode.
Right.
'Cause Lou has so many great stories. Uh, speaking of Lou, you know, Hard Drive, weeknights 7:00 to midnight, Saturdays 8:00 to 10:00 PM.
Well, don't forget Hard Drive XL is 7:00 PM to midnight.
Yeah. Yeah.
Hard Drive, regular-
Yeah
... is weekends, or Saturdays.
His book is available, um, on demand.
That's called Hard Drive 3XL.
[laughs] 3XL. The, the book that I can't remember the title of.
Oh, it's like, uh, Shadow...
Or is it Rock Warrior: My Life and Times as a-
I don't know
... I, I don't know. Just-
Just look up Lou Brutus book, all right?
Yeah, look up Lou Brutus on Spotify.
Look, I'll, I'll do that right now, Lou Brutus book.
Yeah, and it's the audiobook. And-
Sonic Warrior.
Sonic Warrior.
My Life as a Rock and Roll Reprobrate.
Reprobate.
Rep- repro-
Reprobrate
... reprobrate.
Yeah, it, him, him reading the book is much better than actually reading the book yourself. The book i- is great, but just hearing Lou tell the stories, it, it makes it so much better.
But does that count as reading the book, as we talked about for To Peach Throne?
Uh, I don't know if it... Let's discuss this next break.
Okay. [upbeat music]
Dayseeker, Crawl Back to My Coffin, a little bit of new music on the noon hour of madness and mayhem.
Congratulations to Rory, he just announced that he's gonna have another kid.
I didn't know he had any already.
Yeah, he had his daughter Hazel.
Oh. Well, I, I, I-
No, is it Hazel? I think it is Hazel, 'cause he has a whole thing called Hazel's Song.
Oh. I don't pay enough attention to rock stars' personal lives-
And I just say congratulations-
... to know
... thinking he would tune in. Of course he's not gonna tune into us.
He should.
No.
We were one of the first stations that played his stupid band.
He's one of those uppity dudes in Long Beach, California.
[laughs]
All right?
Oh, California, man.
Yeah, the, that's what I'm telling you, like, he's ... He, he, he seems like a diva.
He, he does seem like a diva. Um, we won't get into it.
The biggest divas in rock. Trying to figure out who would be the biggest one. 'Cause I used to call Axl Rose the Kanye West of rock.
Let's see. I mean-
Maybe, oh, Ronnie Radke.
But I
... He's not really a diva, 'cause he will, like, take the time to do interviews, he's very supportive of radio and stuff.
Oh, yeah.
Interacts with his fans. I mean, I think right now the biggest divas would, they'd have to be Rory and Noah.
Noah from Bad Omens, really?
Yeah.
I did see he was we- okay. I, I'm not gonna get political on this, uh, show here.
Okay.
But I did see he was still wearing a mask, and I was like, "Okay."
Yeah. I- and that, was that the picture with, uh-
With Elwood?
With Elwood?
Yeah.
Yeah, I saw that too. Well, Noah's b- I'm ... Okay, you're a vocalist. Maybe he was sick. Maybe he's trying to prevent himself from getting sickness.
I, well, I s-
'Cause he doesn't do ... I was surprised to see that he actually did a photo op with a, a bunch of, uh, people.
Well, I also think the fans ruined it. By fans, I mean those people that are just obsessed with Bad Omens, the people that discovered them through TikTok.
Yeah.
Because they all of a sudden started uploading Noah's baby photos-
Yeah
... online, and I think that probably freaked him out, obviously, and drove him off the, uh, off internet, off the, uh, the world wide web. Same with, uh, Caleb Shomo. He's getting so much heat. They just [laughs] he was like, "I, I'm off this thing."
Yeah, deleted his Instagram. F- fans need to not be so weird, 'cause it does make artists hate the fans. [laughs]
Like Sleep Token. The world is a prison.
[laughs]
Was no, the stage is a prison, that whole thing, yeah.
Yeah. But at least those guys are smart, they cover up their faces so they can still go out in public. Nobody's gonna recognize them, unless you're, like, a member of one of those Sleep Token groups where they constantly talk about who the members are.
But again, you could se- you know who the lead singer, what, what he looks like.
Yeah. Yeah, I've seen pictures of him, and I've s- I guess the, the drummer, he's a, a regular Twitch streamer.
Oh, really?
I haven't watched his Twitch stream, um, but yeah, he, he's on Twitch all the time.
Interesting.
[laughs] Yeah. So I know what he looks like, 'cause the fans are always posting pictures in this one particular group from his Twitch streams.
Well, Noah used to stream on Twitch, too. He stopped doing that.
Oh. Dude, when you're making Bad Omens money. [laughs] Well, I ... Okay.
Well, still-
Sleep Token's making bigger money [laughs] than Bad Omens.
Matt Heafy of, uh, Trivium, he makes more money streaming than he does with the band.
Yeah, yeah. I, I don't think Trivium's making that million dollars a night-
Well, not, not as big
... like, uh, Sleep Token.
Nowhere near as big.
But I read-
But they've been around for a long time.
Doesn't Sleep Token make about a million bucks a week on streams?
That's, I don't know.
It's crazy. It's crazy. Anyway, um, I totally forgot what I was gonna talk about at the beginning of this break. We-
We, we were talking about like, uh, the, the Talking Between the Songs podcast.
Oh, yeah. The, the, yeah.
We, we-
Okay, we were talking about that.
And I said we were, I'm worse than Rockstar.
Okay, yeah.
And then we mo- moved on to Lou Brutus, and we were, we were talking about his book. And then we were, I was asking, "Hey, if you listen to Lou Brutus' book, does that still count as reading it?"
That's right. Okay. We'll talk about audiobooks [laughs] on the next break.
[laughs]
We'll be back. [laughs]
The stage is a prison.
[laughs]
[laughs] I still love that, that clip of Jacoby Shaddix looking all like, "Huh." [laughs]
[laughs]
'Cause some guy's doing a gay remix of Last Resort.
[laughs] Yeah.
[laughs]
All right, Peaches. Um, this show somehow went by pretty fast. I didn't realize we were already on the last break of the program.
Because we drew a winner for Make the Switch with Brett and Gordon Law. Shout out to Elena Mendez.
Oh, yeah, and then we talked about Emo Nite.
And then we talked about, uh, how much money these bands make over us.
Mm-hmm.
A- and now we're gonna talk about audiobooks because here's my thing. People are saying like, "Oh, yeah, it still counts that you read the book if you listen to the audiobook." Does that still count that I played the video game if I watched someone walk through the entire thing on YouTube?
Oh, that's a good point, Peaches. And okay, you know I'm a bit of a book nerd and snob.
I was gonna say, you're the avid reader.
Now, I-
You put in the work
... I enjoy audiobooks. I like them. Um, back when I was having to, uh, drive to Burley for work from Poky, you know, that's two hours of driving every day. So I listened to a fair amount of audiobooks, um, during that time, and it is, it is nice. You know, I, I enjoy it. But
I don't think it counts as reading the book, in my personal opinion. You need to sit down and read.
Uh, loyal-
'Cause you might ... You don't need to know how to read to listen to an audiobook. That's listening.
Loyal listener Amber said that, uh, it still triggers that part of your mind where you imagine the whole thing.
Yeah, I guess it does.
But at the same time, like, audiobooks, I mean, they're good for on the go. They're great for people who are dyslexic and they can't read or-
Yeah, we're not trying to judge people who can't read.
Right. Exactly. But it's more, it's more so just like, hey, out of your own free will, do you say like, "Oh, I read this book." 'Cause me and Aubrey do this all the time where we go to Target, Walmart, any one of those stores, and she'll be like, "Oh, I read that book. Oh, I read that book." And I'm like, "Did you actually read it, or did you just listen to it while working?"
Yeah.
And of course, she's listening to it via her little AirPods or whatever.
That's what Jade does. He'll say, "I'm reading," blank. And I'm like, "No, you're listening. You're listening to," blank. "I ain't seen you with a book in your hand in my life."
[laughs]
[laughs] All I see you reading is like, you know, how to fix it, engineering crap-
I was trying to-
... and things like that
... I was trying to come up with some sort of, like, uh, Marvin the Wizard joke or some [laughs] Marvin the Wizard joke.
Yeah. Reading a bunch of nerdy computer crap. That's all I see you read.
I see him on those Zoom calls looking at those different pamphlets.
[laughs] That's right.
How to be a better engineer. [laughs]
[laughs] Engineering for dummies.
Right.
[laughs]
Oh, I know he can, he, he can conquer that better than I could, for sure.
Oh, I, yeah, I don't, I don't like monkeying with that stuff. When I have to cover for him and try to remember all that stuff, I'm like, "Oh, I don't know what I'm doing." But, uh, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of listening to audiobooks. I-
No, it's great that you're diving deep into a book already.
Yeah.
But at the same time, like-
I just don't think you should use the word reading.
Right.
'Cause that's a specific activity, and it means ... The, the word means something. Reading means something.
It's effort.
Well, and it, it, it's not even the effort. It's just using the English language properly.
I would compare it to, like, maybe walking a mile on the treadmill versus actually walking a mile outside. The treadmill, the elliptical, they all make it easy for you. But if you actually were to walk-
Yeah
... it, I, you, that's some kind of effort that you have to put into that.
Yeah. And I, again, I, I don't even judge, I don't even care, just the word reading means to read.
But you're also still getting the exercise at the same time.
Yeah.
Kind of thing.
Like, you're getting to enjoy a story. You know? You're getting to experience a story.
I did laugh at the beginning part of Stephen King's It. There was a certain word they used that just came out of nowhere that made me just-
Um
... chuckle.
Yeah. Yeah.
And I, I'm wondering how, how crazy this book's gonna get. I actually want to buy-
You're reading It?
What?
You're reading It?
Oh, I'm listening to it.
Okay, you're listening to it. Okay.
I used to have the book-
Okay
... like a long time ago.
Yeah, and see, [laughs] when you hear an audiobook narrator use certain words-
[laughs]
... it's very awkward. [laughs]
See, I would just, uh, I would just snicker the entire time. [laughs]
[laughs]
If I was reading, like, those, uh, quote unquote, "romance books"-
Oh, geez
... and it's just like, "Oh, yeah." [laughs]
[laughs]
